Plasma

Plasma

Introduction

Plasma is the fourth state of matter along with solid, liquid and gas.

Although 99% of the matter in the universe exists in a plasma state, it does not naturally occur on Earth. This means that plasma must be artificially produced to be harnessed and maintained under standard surface conditions.

To generate plasma, energy is needed which is equivalent to 100,000 degrees Celsius. This energy is applied to gas particles, thereby accelerating electrons in the atmosphere, which collide with other particles and thereby become ionized.

The result is the transition to the plasma state.
